Malta’s Health Minister says country has reached herd immunity after 70% of the country’s population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine




The Health Minister of Malta has said the country has reached herd immunity through Covid-19 vaccines.

According to Reuters, the country’s Health Minister Chris Fearne said that 70% of the country’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, whilst 42% of the country has received two doses

Speaking about the success of the vaccination programme, Fearne said the country was administering a vaccine dose every five seconds and case numbers have fallen to a daily average of 3.

Fearne added that the mandatory wearing of face masks outdoors will be lifted on July 1st.

Malta which has a population of roughly 503,000 has become the first European country to mass vaccinate its population to reach so called herd immunity.
