Man aged in his 60s sadly dies after incident at Tayto’s Co Meath site

A man in his 60s has passed away after an occurrence at Tayto’s facility in Ashbourne, Co Meath this morning, reports RTE.

Tayto Snacks Ltd verified that a “fatal incident” happened today and that it concerned “an employee of an independent potato supplier”.

The man was declared deceased at the location and his remains were transported to Our Lady’s Hospital Navan for a post-mortem examination, reports RTE.

Gardaí and emergency responders arrived at the site.

The Health and Safety Authority indicated it is aware of the fatal occurrence and has begun an inquiry.

In a statement this afternoon, Tayto Snacks Ltd said: “It is with profound shock and sadness that Tayto Snacks Ltd. confirms that a fatal incident involving an employee of an independent potato supplier occurred at our Ashbourne, Co. Meath site this morning, reports RTE.

“We are assisting with their enquiries. We will also be working closely with all parties including the Health and Safety Authority.”

The company added that the “safety and wellbeing of all who attend on our site is our highest priority”, adding that it is “committed to supporting any investigations into today’s tragic incident”.

“Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and colleagues as they come to terms with this terrible loss,” it added, reports RTE.

Managing Director John O’Connor said the company is devastated by the incident and its “thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues impacted by this tragic loss of life”.
