A man and woman were rescued from the River Lee in central Cork on Saturday morning and taken to hospital.
The couple, allegedly in their 30s, were spotted in the water at Anderson’s Quay – opposite the bus station – shortly after 9am and emergency services were alerted, reports The Mirror.
Members of the Cork City Fire Brigade were stunned to see rapid river rescue organized to get the man and woman to safety.
Following the rescue, Bryn Boru Bridge was closed for approximately 40 minutes on Saturday morning while the man and woman were rescued and transported to Cork University Hospital for treatment of their non-life-threatening injuries.
The diversion of local traffic was carried out by the Gardai, reports The Mirror.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí assisted local emergency services with a rescue operation that took place on the River Lee in Cork City at approximately 9:20am today, Saturday, 25th of March. Two persons, a man and a woman, were recovered from the water and conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries,” reports The Mirror.
