Gardaí have confirmed that three officers were hospitalised following an incident on Wednesday afternoon.
It is understood the three officers were injured after they tried to arrest a man carrying an imitation firearm outside The Swan Shopping Centre, in Rathmines.
Gardaí say the three officers were injured after they tried to arrest the man aged in his 20s whilst attending a road traffic incident.
However upon trying to arrest the man, it is believed that he became violent and assaulted the officers.
Although the three officers were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for treatment they have since been discharged.
Gardai say the man was taken to Rathmines Garda Station and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
