A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Brigid Maguire in Co Westmeath on Saturday night.
The body of the mother-of-two was discovered by her teenage daughter in a house in the village of Ballinacarrigy around 9.30pm on Saturday night.
A post-mortem examination was completed on the woman’s body on Sunday, however the results have not been released for operational reasons.
The man was subsequently arrested and brought to Mullingar Garda Station where he is being detained questioned in relation to the untimely death of Ms Maguire.
Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity on the main street in Ballinacargy between 5pm and 9pm on Saturday to contact them at Mullingar Garda Station on 044-9384000.
