A man has been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Mairead Moran in Kilkenny on Thursday evening.
Shane Smyth (27) with an address at Flat 3, Mc Guinness House, Evans Lane in Kilkenny city appeared before Judge Eamon O’ Brien at a special sitting of Kilkenny district court this afternoon.
Smith has been remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court next Friday, May 16.
Judge O’Brien has ordered that a full medical and psychiatric assessment be carried out on Shane Smyth in the coming days.
Mairead was tragically killed on Thursday evening as she was closing up at the Holland and Barrett store in which she worked. Ms Moran apparently asked the accused to leave the premises, before he preceded to push in the door an attack her.
