Thousands attend Darkness into Light walks

Thousands of people have taken part in the Pieta House, Darkness Into Light walk.

The 5k walk in aid of suicide prevention got underway at 4.15am at numerous venues across the country. Participants crossed finishing lines just as dawn was breaking, symbolising hope.

More than 10,000 people took part in Co Limerick alone, with members of the Irish diaspora also taking part in events in London and Sydney.

Head CEO of Pieta House, Joan Freeman who was speaking this morning after the Dublin event said it was a huge success.
“In Dublin alone, we are estimating that almost 20,000 walked this morning. Around the rest of the country, we estimate at least 80,000 took part,” she said.
“It has been such an incredible success.”
