Man found guilty of ‘intimidating’ TD Michael Healy-Rae must do community and DIY work

In order to escape a criminal prosecution, Michael Healy-Rae, a protestor who acknowledged “intimidating” TD, had to do a restorative justice program that included do-it-yourself labour for his mother, reports Breaking News.

The “distressing” event occurred on September 20th of last year when an anti-government and anti-immigration protest “spiralled out of control” at government facilities, according to the Dublin District Court.

At Leinster House, Kildare St., Dublin 2, 22-year-old apprentice carpenter Dean Hickson of Griffith Parade, Finglas East, Dublin, entered a guilty plea earlier for intimidating the Kerry politician.

He apologised and said he would never want to participate in another demonstration, according to Judge Paula Murphy, reports Breaking News.

As ordered by the court, he spent many months in a Probation Service program to demonstrate that he was aware of the consequences of his conduct.

A first-time offender who successfully completes the program may be able to avoid receiving a sentence and a criminal record.

Judge Murphy postponed the case’s resolution until February on Thursday, citing reports that Hickson had finished the majority of the program, including doing do-it-yourself projects for his mother and donating to an animal welfare organisation, in order to complete additional community service required by the restorative justice program, reports Breaking News.

When the DĂ¡il reconvened after the summer break, some 200 people had demonstrated outside Leinster House.

He and an office intern attempted to leave the scene when the Independent TD denounced the actions of certain demonstrators, which resulted in several arrests.

Police Hickson was taken into custody by Chloe Rochfort, and Healy-Rae was exempt from testifying in court because of the guilty plea, reports Breaking News.

Defence attorney Donal Quigley noted in mitigation that Hickson, who has never been convicted of a crime, was at a political demonstration: “He said he has never been to one before and says he will never be to one again in his life.”

The lawyer had earlier told the court: “It got out of hand. It was more violent than he had anticipated. He lacks political sensibility altogether, reports Breaking News.
