A man in his 40s has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Tallaght yesterday morning, which left a woman aged in her 80s dead, reports RTE.
The woman, named Kathleen Furlong, 84, was walking at the junction of Fortunestown Way and Cheeverstown Road in Tallaght just before 11am when she was hit by a car.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was taken to the Whitehall City Mortuary for a post-mortem, reports RTE.
Gardaí said the car did not initially remain at the scene of the accident but was later recovered.
The arrested man is currently detained at a south Dublin police station.
Gardaí are still appealing to anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact them, reports RTE.
Anyone who may have camera footage or who was in the area yesterday morning is asked to make it available to the gardaí.
