Man in Dublin appears in court accused of new strangulation offence, rape and recording intimate images of woman

A man has been placed on detention without charge after being accused of rape, the recently created “strangulation” offence, and illegally taking close-up photos of a lady in Dublin in recent weeks, reports Breaking News.

After gardaí located at Store Street station conducted an investigation, the accused, who is in his 30s and cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Judge Deirdre Gearty at Dublin District Court.

The acts are said to have happened on a few different occasions throughout the previous month at a home property in the north inner city.

The man is charged with raping the lady, a crime for which he faces a life sentence if found guilty, reports Breaking News.

In addition, he faces charges under recently enacted legislation that designates non-fatal strangling as a distinct felony with a potential 10-year prison term.

It is claimed that in that crime, he purposefully choked the woman without a valid reason, leading her to assume that she would likely be strangled in the course of an attack, reports Breaking News.

In addition, gardaí accused him of violating the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020 by filming private photos of her without her permission, which might substantially disrupt her privacy and cause fear, anxiety, or injury.

Police Sean Shields provided proof of his arrest, accusation, and warning, reports Breaking News.
