Man jailed for the manslaughter of his housemate in Wexford

A 45-yr-old man has been jailed for nine years for stabbing a father-of-two to death at the home they shared in Wexford three-and-a-half years ago, reports RTE.

David Bolger, of Irish Street, Enniscorthy, pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of Przemyslaw Klimczuk but was found guilty of murder.

Judge Tony Hunt described the case as extremely sad and said he believed Bolger, who had been drinking heavily that day, was genuinely sorry for what he had done.

The court heard that on April 30, 2020, Bolger and Mr Klimczuk were drinking alcohol at home with another person, while the fourth person was in his bedroom and not drinking, reports RTE.

The three drinkers were joined by two others who did not live there, and copious amounts of alcohol were consumed and several bottles of Jägermeister were purchased.

Both guests left the house because Bolger was behaving aggressively, and Bolger became aggressive towards the two remaining guests.

An altercation ensued, followed by a fight, which resulted in Bolger suffering a facial injury.

Mr. Klimczuk went to another roommate’s bedroom and asked him if he could stay in his room because he was scared, reports RTE.

The door was closed and both were inside before Bolger approached the door and asked to speak to Mr. Klimczuk.

Bolger was let in, and another roommate found Mr. Klimczuk lying backwards on the bed and a knife in Bolger’s hand. The roommate also saw Bolger stab Mr. Klimczuk.

Judge Hunt sentenced Bolger to ten years and six months at the Central Criminal Court, with the final 18 months suspended, reports RTE.
