Man who is accused of robbing and beating pensioner in Dublin gets granted bail

A Dublin man has been charged with robbing an 88-year-old pensioner who was injured and robbed while transferring his savings to a local credit union, reports Breaking News.

Robert McDonnell, 57, of Greek Street, Dublin 7, was charged with stealing €500 from an elderly man at 7 Manor Street, Dublin, on February 24.

Garda Aisling Daly objected to bail due to concerns about witness tampering and stated that the accused and the complainant used the same credit union.

It is alleged that the victim was bringing money into the branch at the time of the incident and there is CCTV evidence, reports Breaking News.

Garda Daly told Dublin District Court that the elderly man was attacked, and had “fractures to his face” and was afraid to approach the defendant.

There was also a fear of learning about his daily routine.

No cash was recovered, reports Breaking News.
