
A man who was accused with killing his spouse and whose corpse was found in a flat in Midleton, County Cork on Friday, was remanded in jail after making an appearance in court over the weekend, reports Breaking News.
Adam Corcoran, 29, of John Barry House, Connolly Street, Midleton, County Cork, made an appearance on Sunday before a special session of the Mallow District Court in County Cork. In violation of Daena Walsh’s 27-year-old common law, he was accused of murder.
Mr. Corcoran was placed under detention and ordered to return to court via video connection on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, Inspector Tony O’Sullivan requested a two-week detention in the matter at Mallow District Court. According to defence attorney Pat Horan, his client gave his approval for the remand. In this matter, DPP directives are sought, reports Breaking News.
In order to await DPP instructions, Judge Marie Keane remanded Mr. Corcoran in detention until August 20th. On the next occasion, he will also be seen by video connection.
Meanwhile, Det Garda Cormac O’Bric provided proof of an arrest, a charge, and a warning on Sunday. He said that Mr. Corcoran stated, “No comment,” in response to the official presentation of the defendant with the single charge at 2:18 a.m. on Sunday at the Midleton Garda Station.
Since bail cannot be granted at the district court level when there is a murder accusation, there was no application for bail in this instance, reports Breaking News.
Eddie Burke, a lawyer, represented Mr. Corcoran in court. Mr. Burke requested that his client get care while he is being held in detention. After granting his plea, Judge Philip O’Leary declared that Corcoran will get all required medical and/or psychological support while incarcerated in Cork.
Since Mr. Corcoran is now unemployed, legal aid was given in this matter.
Last Friday, Mr. Corcoran was taken into custody on suspicion of murder. In accordance with Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984, he was being held in the Midleton Garda Station.
After emergency personnel arrived at the scene just after 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, Ms Walsh was declared dead in her flat off Main Street in Midleton, reports Breaking News.
