A threat made against the Taoiseach and his family over the weekend is being looked into by the GardaÃ, reports RTE.
The threat, which was made on Instagram, makes reference to a gun and makes violent threats against Simon Harris, his spouse, and their kids.
After the gardaà requested that the social media corporation take down the threat, it stayed up online for at least two days.
This is Mr. Harris’s most recent threat; he has already had to deal with demonstrators outside his family home and a bomb threat, reports RTE.
The investigation is being conducted, as verified by Garda Headquarters.
According to the spokesperson for Mr. Harris, he is unable to comment on issues regarding the security of the Taoiseach.
We’ve reached out to Instagram for a response.
On Saturday night, the Taoiseach and his family received a threat on Instagram, which Gardaà learnt about.
Along with the Taoiseach, his wife and kids were also included in the threat, which involved knives, reports RTE.
It also makes mention to the Wicklow Mountains.
The Gardaà are treating it seriously and have described it as dark and frightening.
The message was extensively viewed, screenshotted, and distributed throughout the bank holiday weekend on Sunday and yesterday, despite their plea for Instagram to remove it.
The account in question was created using a popular Irish name and three digits; it is currently a private account that can only be viewed with the owner’s consent.
It is unclear if the danger is still there on the account and visible to people who have access today, reports RTE.
The gardaà have requested Instagram to help them identify the individual behind the account, and a criminal inquiry is underway.
Additionally, copies of the threat and any relevant material will be sought after by the detectives.
However, a Garda spokeswoman emphasised that social media firms do not need to wait for a Garda request before taking action, and that it is not the gardaÃ’s responsibility to ask them to delete violent or threatening content.
According to the spokesman, these businesses can take appropriate measures after becoming aware of content on their websites, reports RTE.
This is the second garda investigation into threats against the Taoiseach that is currently underway.
They are also looking into a bomb threat that was made six weeks ago against this Wicklow residence.
After a search, no gadget was found, and the gardaà are looking into the matter further.
The primary suspect is incarcerated at the moment for unrelated offences.
Politicians are increasingly being threatened; in addition to the Taoiseach, other politicians targeted include TD Paul Murphy of People before Profit, Minister of Justice Helen McEntee, and Minister of Integration Roderic O’Gorman, reports RTE.
