Man who sadly died in e-scooter collision on Christmas Day has been named locally

A man who died after his e-scooter collided with a car in Waterford city on Christmas Day has been named locally.

Alan Walsh, aged in his 40s and from St John’s Park in Waterford city, was travelling on an e-scooter when the collision occurred at the junction of Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road at around 11am on Thursday, reports Breaking News.

Mr Walsh, who was a father of two, was taken to University Hospital Waterford, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a man in his 80s, was also taken to University Hospital Waterford with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí said no other injuries were reported.

Mr Walsh, who worked at O’Sullivans Bar and Restaurant, is survived by his son Sean and daughter Ava, and will be “sadly missed by his heartbroken” mother Esther, father Tommy, brothers Thomas and Mark, sisters Lorraine, Karen and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, relatives, neighbours and friends, reports Breaking News.

Funeral details published on rip.ie state that Mr Walsh’s remains will repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home on Barrack Street, Waterford, on Saturday January 3rd from midday, with vigil prayers and Rosary at 1.15pm, followed by removal to the Sacred Heart Church, The Folly, for Mass at 2.00pm and burial afterwards in St Otteran’s Cemetery on the Cork Road in Waterford.

In lieu of flowers, members of the public are asked, if desired, to make donations to Waterford Animal Welfare, reports Breaking News.

One mourner said: “Having grown up next door to him, I’ll always remember the laughs we had. Thinking of you all during this incredibly difficult time,” reports Breaking News.

The road was closed for a number of hours to allow forensic collision investigators to carry out a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward, reports Breaking News.

They are particularly seeking to speak with any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, and who were travelling on Manor Hill (Bunker’s Hill) and Hennessy’s Road between 10.45am and 11.15am on December 25.
