A man accused of murdering nearly two dozen elderly women and a man guilty in the deaths of two others last year was killed by an inmate at a Texas prison early Tuesday, an official said, reports Breaking News.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice investigation Hannah Haney said 50-year-old Billy Chemirmir was found dead in his cell.
He said Chemirmir’s cellmate, who is serving a sentence for murder, was identified as the attacker, but he could not reveal the cellmate’s identity or how Chemirmir was killed.
Authorities say Chemirmir preyed on elderly women in the Dallas area over a two-year period, killing them and stealing their valuables, reports Breaking News.
After a 91-year-old woman survived the attack in 2018 and told police that Chemirmir forced his way into her apartment at an independent seniors centre, tried to suffocate her with a pillow and took her jewellery.
Police said they found Chemirmir in the parking lot of his apartment complex with jewellery and cash the next day after he dropped a large red jewellery box.
Documents in a jewellery box led them to the home of 81-year-old Lou Thee Harris, who was found dead in her bedroom.
Chemirmir’s first murder trial ended in a mistrial in Dallas County.
He was later found guilty in a second trial for Harris’ death and conviction of second-degree murder in the death of Mary Brooks (87).
