Authorities in India have confirmed that a man who woke up in a mortuary freezer after being declared dead has died in hospital.

According to BBC News, the 74 year old man from Tamil Nadu state sadly passed away after being found inside the freezer on Tuesday.

It is believed that the man was found by undertakers after he was declared dead on Monday.

Authorities investigating the incident say they are unsure how long the man was inside the freezer but he was found shaking as undertakers were getting ready to prepare his body for his funeral.

The man was immediately taken to a hospital in Salem, in drowsy condition and sadly he later died of lung related conditions.

BBC News reports that police say the man’s family say the man was initially declared dead at a private hospital on Monday.

It is then believed that the family requested that undertakers send a freezer box after they took the man’s remains home.

However police investigating the incident say the family have since been unable to provide a medical certificate of the man’s death.

They have now taken a case against the family for “acting rashly or negligently to endanger human life”.
