In a move that has infuriated many, a man has been appointed as Scotland’s first “Period Dignity Regional Lead Officer”, and will now work on promoting access to free sanitary products in schools.  He will also discuss the menopause as part of his job.

According to the Metro, the appointment of a man has led many to question why a woman was not given the job instead.

Former Wimbledon champion Matina Navratilova is one of those who have expressed outrage at the news, describing the choice as “f***ing ridiculous”, and saying “Have we (women) ever tried to explain to men how to shave or how to take care of their prostate or whatever?  This is absurd.”

The man appointed, Jason Grant, is reported to have said in an interview that “being a man will help me to break down barriers, reduce stigma and encourage more open discussions”.
