A man who was tricked into meeting paedophile hunters instead of a teenage girl has been jailed for two years and four months in the UK.
According to LouthLive, the Dundalk Democrat and the Sunday World, 58-year-old Declan Power was conned by one of the paedophile hunters when a fake Facebook profile was set up.
Power then thought he was talking to a schoolgirl called Charlotte and, after sending sexual messages, he arranged to meet the girl. He then flew to the UK but instead of meeting the girl, he was cornered and subsequently arrested.
He was said to have had condoms with him together with return tickets for himself and the girl. Power, who lived in Dromiskin, County Louth had allegedly built a high fence around his house, supposedly to stop neighbours from seeing into the property.
His defence team described his actions as a “month of madness” and was ashamed of his action but the Court thought he deserved jail time and he was sentenced at Exeter Crown Court.
