
Comments made by a fuel protest spokesperson have been described as “deeply disturbing” by the Taoiseach, as he warned Ireland was on the “precipice” of cutting off oil supplies had gardai not taken action on Sunday morning.
Roads, ports and a refinery had been blocked since demonstrations over rising fuel costs began on Tuesday.
Protesters have demanded direct talks with the Government, which has repeatedly insisted it will only engage with established representative organisations.
Government ministers and official representatives from the farming and haulage sectors met at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, but there still is no deal.
Gardai were given the go ahead to remove protesters across Ireland on Sunday morning leaving the situation in limbo at this point.
