Martin says €1 million taxpayer money will be sent to Ukraine after dam destroyed

Ireland has announced aid of €1 million to the people of Ukraine after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam.

The war-torn country faces an additional humanitarian crisis after the devastating floods that followed the dam attack, reports Breaking News.

It is estimated that 16,000 people have already been directly affected and there are fears that this number will increase in the coming days.

Tánaiste and Foreign Minister Micheál Martin said the funds would support the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross, which is a central part of the local response, reports Breaking News.

The aim is to meet immediate and urgent humanitarian needs on the ground.

“The unfolding crisis in southern Ukraine will place extraordinary pressure on an already vulnerable population. Funding from Ireland will support a locally led response and provide assistance to those most impacted by this catastrophe,” he said, reports Breaking News.
