The Tanaiste and Foreign Minister Michael Martin said they were outraged by the renewed fighting in Gaza, reports RTE.
Israel has resumed its deadly bombing campaign, vowing to destroy suspected Hamas positions in the densely populated Palestinian territories after a week-long ceasefire expired despite calls from around the world to extend it.
Israel accused militants of firing a rocket shortly before the end of the ceasefire, but the UN expressed dismay at the resumption of hostilities.
Gaza’s Hamas-led health ministry said more than 100 people had been killed since the ceasefire ended at 5 am, reports RTE.
Mr Martin said he condemned the Israeli army’s bombing of the territory, but also the actions of Hamas.
“I condemn the bombardment that’s now under way. I condemn the actions of Hamas also,” reports RTE.
“The scale of this war has been extraordinary and immense in terms of the level of bombing that has taken place already, the degree to which large parts of Gaza has been flattened,” he added, reports RTE.
