Martin says TV crews should not be allowed into maternity hospitals while partners stay outside

The Taoiseach Micheal Martin has said that TV crews should not be allowed into maternity hospitals to film reality tv shows while partners have to remain outside.

Martin was speaking at the second day of the Fianna Fáil think-in in Cavan and said that there must be consistency in relation to partners being allowed into hospitals with expectant mothers.

People have been voicing their anger at RTE and the Rotunda Hospital after a reality tv show went ahead at the height of the pandemic while partners of expectant mothers were forced to sit in their cars outside the hospital.

In what can only be described as a truly disgraceful act, RTE and the Rotunda Hospital are under severe pressure this evening after it emerged that TV crews were allowed into the hospital during restrictions even though partners of expectant mothers were forced to stay outside.

It makes absolutely no sense how TV crews, who more than likely had no direct connection with anyone in the hospital, were allowed in to record a TV reality show for RTE while partners of pregnant women were given the door.

The Rotunda reality TV show aired on Wednesday night on RTE 2 at 9.30pm and was filmed while restrictions were still in place, restrictions that forced partners to stay outside while expectant mothers were giving birth.
