The fight of the century between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor may be a little over three weeks away but the verbal exchanges between the two are already in full swing with both fighters dishing out the insults on their epic world tour last month, but now it seems things have once again kicked up a notch as ‘Money’ took to social media recently to display his confidence about defeating ‘The Notorious’ by giving into one of his biggest demands.

The fight which has been called a mismatch by many given Mayweather’s vast experience in the ring, has yet again taken another twist as the undefeated boxer posted a message to the reigning UFC Lightweight Champion informing him of his desire to switch to 8oz gloves during their upcoming battle on August 26th in Las Vegas.

The move which McGregor long called for before the world press tour has come as a surprise as Mayweather refused to budge on the agreement that would see the pair go toe to toe in the traditional 10oz gloves.

Mayweather’s decision which has been seen as a display of confidence or arrogance if you will, is seen something as a shock given that the lighter gloves would give McGregor a slight advantage given that he usually fights with either 4 or 6oz gloves inside the octagon.

Mayweather’s announcement which was posted via Twitter has left many fans of both boxing and MMA wondering why he would give his opponent a slight edge given the power his left hand posses.

In the tweet Mayweather said: “McGregor, let’s fight in 8 oz gloves. Don’t believe what you hear in the media. Don’t believe what you hear on blog sites. If it’s not coming directly from me, then it’s not true.”

“I’m telling McGregor ‘let’s fight in 8 oz gloves’. McGregor can fight in any brand he prefers or chooses.

“I’ll be wearing 8oz Grant gloves. Whatever advantage McGregor needs to feel more comfortable in the ring, I’m willing to accommodate.

“Let’s give the boxing and MMA fans what they want to see.”

Although the 49-0 boxer is an overwhelming favourite to win the fight he may very well regret his decision as McGregor has been given more than a punchers chance in the fight which has fans of both sports all over the world talking about who will come out on top.
