The Minister for Foreign Affairs has joined a statement alongside 13 other nations denouncing recent Israeli settlements in the West Bank, reports Breaking News.
In the joint declaration released on Wednesday evening, Helen McEntee and fellow foreign ministers stated that the moves by the Israeli security cabinet “violate international law but also risk fuelling instability”, reports Breaking News.
Several EU nations endorsed the declaration together with Canada, Japan and the UK.
They argue that Israel’s approval of 19 new settlements in the occupied West Bank forms “part of a wider intensification” of settlement activities and could “undermining” the Gaza peace initiative as well as “long-term peace and security across the region”, reports Breaking News.
The declaration – additionally endorsed by Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Iceland, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain – urges Israel to “reverse this decision, as well as the expansion of settlements”.
The governments say: “We are resolute in our support of Palestinians’ right of self-determination”, reports Breaking News.
