McEntee says “Dublin is safe” yet Gardaí made over 580 arrests in Dublin last week alone over public safety concerns

Gardaí said they made an average of 84 arrests in Dublin each day last week, reports Breaking News.

This is due to a perceived increase in crime in the capital and a series of attacks on tourists and residents.

Gardaí across Dublin have made more than 580 arrests, carried out more than 815 searches and carried out 1,450 patrols in the last seven days, police said in a statement on Tuesday, reports Breaking News.

This includes 103 drug-related arrests, as well as 816 searches by detectives.

There were 258 road safety checkpoints, including 38 drunk driving arrests.

Gardaí provided support to 416 victims of domestic violence in the Dublin area.

Justice Minister Helen McEntee praised the increase in arrests and high-visibility patrols in city centres.

“The extra €10m provided by Government supports increased high visibility policing, in addition to our new Gardaí on the beat in the capital,” she posted on X/Twitter, reports Breaking News.
