According to reports a senior figure within the Fianna Fáil party believes that it will be highly unlikely that his party will be in government after the general election.

The comments come from a key figure within the party Cork South Central TD and party Finance spokesman Michael McGrath who said that while nothing can be ruled out, a return to government in the short-term is “unlikely.”
Mr McGrath said: “We can’t rule it out because that would be irresponsible every party will have a responsibility after the next election and the people have had their say to form a stable government “I think it is a possibility that Fianna Fáil could be part of that, but my own view is that it remains unlikely,” he said.

Deputy McGrath also claims that on the basis of current opinion polls, forming a Government after the next election could be very though. McGrath said: “If the opinion polls are borne out in a general election, then the next Dáil will be deeply fragmented and it will be incredibly difficult to form a credible government,” Mr McGrath also agrees that the next election will be the toughest he has ever faced.
