Two flights were forced to divert to Shannon Airport today, after medical emergencies arose in both flights.

KLM Flight 686 and United Airlines Flight UA-951 were en route over the Atlantic, but had to divert to Shannon within minutes of each other this afternoon, after declaring emergencies.

Both aircraft landed safely, and the ill passengers were transferred to University Hospital Limerick.

The flights then resumed their journeys without further incident.
