An influential and highly respected medical journal has published a study that shows foetal exposure to fluoride in drinking water leads to a lower IQ compared to those not exposed to the toxin.
JAMA Paediatrics published the story and noted that they subjected the research to additional scrutiny which verified the findings of the research.
This latest study which examined 512 pregnant women from six Canadian cities and measured their exposure to fluoride in multiple ways and then measured the IQ test of their children when they were aged three and four.
The children whose mothers had the least exposure to fluoride invariably scored higher on IQ tests and this was seen across the board even when considering the numerous other factors.
This latest research backs up numerous other studies which have shown pregnant women’s exposure to fluoridated water is detrimental to the neurological development of this unborn children.
The study found a 1 mg per litre increase in concentration of fluoride in urine was associated with a 4.5-point decrease in IQ among boys—though not girls. Another translation: The boys of mothers with the most fluoride in the urine had IQs about 3 points lower than the boys of mothers with the least amount.
Study author Rivka Green said, “We saw an association between prenatal fluoride exposure and lower IQ scores in children”.
In Ireland, public drinking water is artificially fluoridated, and some studies have also linked exposure to fluoride to increased rates of cancer, irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn’s Disease and various neurological disorders.
