In a tragic set of circumstances, 8-yr-old Safyre Terry lost her father and three younger siblings in an arson attack. Safyre managed to survive after her dad shielded her from the blaze with his own body.
Safyre suffered 75% of burns to her body and lost her right hand and left foot as a result of the fire.
Safyre is still recovering but is receiving much support from her local community in her hometown of Schenectady, New York.
Her guardian and auntie, Liz Dolder bought the little girl a Christmas tree to hang Christmas cards on. Safyre was excited to fill the tree with cards, but Dolder told her that it was “probably not going to happen”.
Dolder posted a request on Facebook for people to send Safyre as many Christmas cards as possible – the post soon went viral and she is now receiving cards from all over the world including Australia, South Africa, and the UK.
