A member of the Gardai was rushed to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin, after sustaining serious head injuries during an attack with a baseball bat.
The incident happened while gardai were searching a man in Carrickmines, Dublin, on Saturday evening.
A large crowd began gathering, and someone wielding a baseball bat attacked the gardai.
The injured party remains in hospital.
