Ireland have been given a boost ahead of this month’s Rugby World Cup as they have moved to number one in the world rankings following victory over Wales.

In a game that was a special occasion for Rory Best and Joe Schmidt, the boys in green moved to the top of the pile with a 19-10 victory.

Following on from last week”s victory Ireland were given the perfect send off as tries from Rob Kearney, Tadhg Furlong and James Ryan gave Joe Schmidt’s men back to back victories over the Welsh.

Ireland who now face Scotland in their opening game of the World Cup in two weeks time will be boosted by the performance as their defensive display proved pivotal in over coming a strong Welsh side.

However there was some bad news as Keith Earls came off with what could be a potentially serious knee injury.

The game which see’s Ireland take top spot in the World Rankings for the first time ever was made all the more special as Best and Schmidt took victory in their final game on Irish soil.
