Meningitis scare: 12th possible case identified, public advised to be on high alert

The Irish health authority has issued a warning for people across the country to be aware and on high alert about the current meningitis scare, after the Health Service Authority (HSE) identified a 12th possible case.

It was revealed recently that three people have died due to meningitis-related causes in recent weeks.

Young children and teenagers are most at risk, so parents are advised to be on high alert.

Meanwhile, authorities have confirmed that only children born after October 2016 are entitled to free vaccination for the Meningitis B strain. All others will be asked to pay for the vaccine, which may cost up to €450.
