Met Eireann issue yellow status warning as heavy rainfall and flooding is expected in nine counties

Met Eireann have issued an yellow status weather alert for nine counties this evening.

Met Eireann say heavy rainfall and flooding is expected in counties Dublin, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Meath, Cork, Kerry, Tipperary and Waterford. The national forecaster released a brief statement earlier today saying: “Southern parts of Munster and Leinster are likely to have rainfall accumulations of 25-45mm during Monday. “Southern and eastern coasts will be subject to strong, southeasterly winds throughout the day also. “Consequently, during periods of high tide, these winds may give rise to coastal overtopping.”

Meanwhile a number of flood gates in Dublin have been closed with expected flooding in Clontarf, Sandymount Strand and along the river Dodder.
