The UK’s MI5 intelligence service has established a unit solely to deal with left-wing, anarchist, and “single-issue terrorism” which has been dubbed LASIT.
The UK Telegraph reported that the new unit will also have potential vegan terrorists in its sights and said that while the biggest threat to British security remains Muslim terrorism the threat of, MI5 is taking its lead from police on broadening its targeting of potential domestic terror threats.
The Times has reported that around that two-thirds of MI5’s caseload is domestic terrorist threats, with Islamic extremism still representing the greatest threat to the United Kingdom’s security while another 20% is dedicated to tackling the New IRA and other dissident Irish Republican groups.
