Micheál Martin is calling on the Taoiseach to clarify the Irish position in relation to a British deal with the European Union last night.
The deal surrounded the fact that UK Prime Minister David Cameron is expected to announce the date of a British Referendum on whether to remain in Europe.
Speaking in Castlebar, Micheál Martin said he welcomes the deal reached. The Fianna Fáil leader says the Government here needs to spell out what it really means for our country and the Irish in Britain.
“Like everything this Government says, we do need to see the detail in relation to that.
“And I would like to see more clarity around that issue about Irish citizens in the UK and how they might fare in any changes to the welfare situation.
“We do want Britain to remain within the European Union that is very important in terms of Ireland’s long term economic prospects.”
