
A migrant has appeared before a court after two gardaĆ were taken to hospital following an incident at a council office in Co Donegal, reports Breaking News.
Abdou Abouzid faced several charges linked to an altercation at the Donegal County Council Public Services Centre on Neil T Blaney Road in Letterkenny on Thursday afternoon, reports Breaking News.
GardaĆ were called to the location after an incident involving staff at the building shortly before 3pm.
Two gardaĆ sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to Letterkenny University Hospital for treatment, reports Breaking News.
Two individuals, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 30s, were arrested at the scene and brought to Letterkenny Garda Station.
The woman has since been released and is due to appear before Letterkenny District Court on Monday next, reports Breaking News.
A 35-year-old man, Abdou Abouzid, was held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and appeared in court on Friday afternoon.
He faces a total of four charges, reports Breaking News.
It is alleged that on April 23rd, 2026, at the Donegal County Council Public Services Centre, he assaulted Garda Daniel Murphy, an offence contrary to Section 2 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.
He is further accused that on the same date and at the same location, he assaulted Garda Lee Scanlon, reports Breaking News.
Another charge states that on that date and place, he was found in a public area by Garda Daniel Murphy, who reasonably suspected that he was behaving in a manner contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act 1994.
This allegation is contrary to Section 8 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, as amended by Section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008, reports Breaking News.
He is also accused that at the same time and location, he used or engaged in threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause a breach of the peace, or being reckless as to whether such a breach might occur.
This offence is contrary to Section 6 of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act, 1994, as amended by Section 22 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act, 2008, reports Breaking News.
Defence solicitor Rory O’Brien stated that he understood there was no objection to bail from gardaĆ.
He added that his client was aware of the conditions attached to the bail and accepted them, reports Breaking News.
These conditions include surrendering his passport card, residing at his home address at Hazelbrook Crescent, Long Lane, Letterkenny, and signing a bond of ā¬150.
Garda Sergeant Noel O’Donnell of Letterkenny Garda Station indicated that additional charges may follow in this case, reports Breaking News.
Judge Emile Daly agreed to adjourn proceedings until Monday, April 27th, to allow for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
O’Brien was also granted legal aid on behalf of his client, reports Breaking News.
