
A 65-yr-old woman has died following what gardaĆ described as a serious assault in Ballybrit, Co Galway.
A man in his 30s has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being detained at a garda station in the northwest region, reports RTE.
Emergency services responded to the Claà Mór estate on the Old Monivea Road in Galway at approximately 11.45pm on Friday night, after receiving reports of an assault at an apartment.
The woman was taken from the scene to University Hospital Galway in critical condition, where she passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning, reports RTE.
A post-mortem examination has been carried out, but gardaĆ stated that the findings are not being released for operational reasons.
The scene continues to be secured and is undergoing examination by the Garda Technical Bureau, reports RTE.
