Migrant in Dublin accused of assaulting neighbour claims row was over ‘loud snoring’

A man in Dublin who was denied bail after being charged with beating his neighbour has stated that the argument began because he “snores very loudly,” reports Sunday World.

On Wednesday, Mouro Di Dio was charged with assault causing hurt by 41-year-old Ismail Tamar of South Circular Road.

Mr. Tamar, an Afghan immigrant to Ireland, appeared before Dublin District Court Judge Monika Leech.

Police James Butler said that when Mr. Di Dio attempted to defend himself, he injured the ligaments in one of his hands, reports Sunday World.

He said that Mr. Di Dio also put up his leg to defend himself, but the defendant took one of his shoes away. He also said that Mr. Tamar tried to hit him with a wooden stick.

The court heard that although they shared apartments, their relationship had deteriorated and that Mr. Tamara had abused the complainant and his wife on many occasions, reports Sunday World.

The complainant had his arm in a sling when he arrived at the hearing.

The garda objected to bail, claiming that there had been an increase in violence and that they worried Mr. Tamar would act aggressively and violently towards Mr. Di Dio and his wife, reports Sunday World.

Tony Collier, a defence attorney, stated that his client was in the flat next door and that the complainant had been berating Mr Tamar’s wall and harassing him.

“The issue of snoring was never mentioned” in the complaint statement, according to the garda, reports Sunday World.
