Migrant Jozef Puska’s brother claims he was on medication and couldn’t remember to tell gardai what his brother did

Marek Puska, brother of Jozef Puska, told gardaĆ investigating Ashling Murphy’s murder that medication for his back condition, which left him on disability allowance, prevented him from providing more information, reports RTƉ.

Marek Puska, 36, is charged with withholding critical information in the investigation into Ms. Murphy’s murder. He is on trial alongside his brother, Lubomir Puska Jnr, 35, who also faces charges of withholding information. Their wives, Jozefina Grundzova, 31, and Viera Gaziova, 38, are accused of impeding Jozef Puska’s apprehension or prosecution by burning the clothes he wore during the murder. All four have pleaded not guilty, according to RTƉ.

Detective Garda Cian Steers told prosecutor Anne-Marie Lawlor SC that on 14 January 2022, two days after the murder, Marek gave a voluntary statement at Tullamore Garda Station. He described how the family, including three brothers, their wives, and 14 children, lived together in one house in Mucklagh, Tullamore. He referred to recent months as ā€œgolden times, the best of times,ā€ stating, ā€œI swear to god, everyone says they don’t see a family like this getting on… We sit and talk and don’t argue,ā€ reports RTƉ.

He added, ā€œThe kids are at the top of everything and get everything,ā€ and noted that he and Jozef were on disability allowance due to back problems, according to RTƉ.
