The case involving a man accused of violently attacking a crèche employee and attempting to murder three children in Dublin has been further postponed while a psychologist reviews a new report, reports RTE.

Riad Bouchaker, aged 51, was first brought before the court in December 2023 following the incident at Parnell Square in Dublin city centre.

Mr Bouchaker’s senior counsel informed Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court that a medical expert had been evaluating the accused over several months and had requested a neuropsychological report, reports RTE.

The court heard that the report has now been received, but the doctor has asked for another four weeks to examine the findings thoroughly.

Defence counsel also explained that the doctor faced delays in gaining access to Mr Bouchaker while in custody, and also encountered difficulties related to interpreter availability, reports RTE.

Mr Justice McDermott adjourned the case until 28 May for a further update on its progress.

Mr Bouchaker, who is of no fixed address, is facing charges of attempting to murder two girls and one boy, reports RTE.

He is also accused of causing serious harm to a childcare worker and of either possessing or producing a knife.

The alleged incident took place in front of a school on the afternoon of 23 November 2023, reports RTE.
