Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly says he doesn’t believe a specific vaccine rate is needed to ease restrictions

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has said that he believes that the country doesn’t need a specific vaccination rate in order to ease Covid-19 restrictions.

Speaking about the possibility of society reopening, Donnelly said that Ireland doesn’t necessarily need to reach 90% before restrictions can be eased.

The Minister for Health claimed that the country is already on its way to achieving that number anyway with 84% of those aged over 16 fully vaccinated.

Donnelly who was responding to NPHET’s advice that 90% of the population aged over 16 should be vaccinated before the easing of further restrictions, also said that the situation will be continuously monitored.

He added that any decisions in regards to the easing of further restrictions will be made at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.
