The new Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar has called in the Cabinet to restore the Christmas Bonus this year.
The payment which was abolished in 2009, but briefly introduced in 2014 was not scheduled to be in place this year but Mr Varadkar has told the Dail that he would like to see the annual bonus payment restored.
It us understood a decision will be made on Budget Day in October.
