The Housing Minister is to announce details regarding the fast track delivery of 30,000 homes later this morning.
The announcement follows a report from property website DAFT.ie, showing rent prices in Ireland to be at an all-time high.
The government have been urged to take action. Minister Simon Coveney will announce the sites for new major urban developments as part of the Action Plan for Housing.
The Minister says changes to the planning system will hopefully allow at least 25,000 homes to be built annually.
