Missing fisherman whose body was recovered from Lough Corrib yesterday named

The man whose body was retrieved from Lough Corrib yesterday has been named as Oughterard-native 53-year-old Aongus Curran.

Mr. Curran was a married father of five and a prominent head and neck surgeon in UCD and St. Vincent’s Hospital.

He set off from Oughterard in his boat on Friday morning, but never returned. His body was found near Camillaun Island, in close proximity from his starting point.

A post-mortem will be carried out on the body to determine the exact cause of death.
