Missing man gets found in shark’s stomach after his family identifies him by his tattoo

The remains of a man who disappeared earlier this month appear to have been found inside a shark, reports Sky.

Diego Barria, 32, a father of three, was last seen in his off-road vehicle near the coast of southern Argentina’s Chubut province on February 18.

Early Sunday morning, two fishermen reported to the local coastguard that they had caught three schools of sharks near where Mr Barria’s vehicle had been found.

Daniela Millatruz, the law enforcement officer in charge of their search, told local media that the fishermen had said “when they were cleaning [the sharks] they found human remains in one of them,” reports Sky.

Barria’s family recognized him “due to a tattoo that appeared in one of those remains,” she added, though DNA tests will also be done to confirm his identity.

It is not clear what happened, but the investigation continues: Mr. Barria’s damaged vehicle was found on a beach near Rocas Coloradas two days after he disappeared.

Ms Millatruz said: “”We presume Diego had an accident and we are investigating if there was a vehicle involved” reports Sky.

Cristian Ansaldo, head of the Comodoro Rivadavia city police department, said the shark was about 1.5 meters long and that Barria “had an accident and was dragged”, reports Sky.

He said there was a major surge the weekend Mr. Barria went missing.
