Mixed reaction to Bank of Ireland permanently closing 88 branches across the country as part of the bank’s push towards online banking

Bank of Ireland announced the permanent closure of 88 branches across the country as part of the bank’s push towards online banking, which occurred on Friday afternoon.

The closure represents more than one third of the bank’s total branch network.

According to the bank, the closures are a result of a ‘seismic shift’ in customers’ banking practices over the last few years.

Many people believe that it’s a step too far away from cash banking and that it’s an affront to rural banking.
