Mixed reaction to Varadar saying that reopening schools is among the safest things we can do

There’s been a very mixed reaction to the Taoiseach’s comments on reopening schools, which many are saying are controversial.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that the re-opening of schools and childcare facilities in September can be one of the safest things we can do.

Varadkar said that although a number of safety measures would have to be implemented, the prospect of schools re-opening at the beginning of the school year is encouraging.

Varadkar also said that there was growing evidence that children are at least risk of contracting the virus and the least likely to cause a widespread of the virus.

The caretaker Taoiseach stated that new reports from HIQA as well as the comments from World Health Organisation’s Dr Michael Ryan suggests that the re-opening of schools and childcare facilities is one of the safest things we can do.

Varadkar also said that it’s important that children can return to normal life as soon as it is safe to do so.
