Mixed reactions to gardai being allowed wear hijabs and turbans

There has been widespread debate about new garda recruits being allowed wear hijabs and turbans should their religion offer it.

In an effort to ‘increase diversity’ in the Force, the new uniforms are being rolled out immediately. The new uniform rules are hoped to attract more people from ethnic minorities to join the Gardai.

Some people think that gardai wearing a hijab or a turban could cause confusion with members of the public.

The recruitment drive is now on, and you can apply on www.publicjobs.ie until April 24.
