Many people on social media are querying why the government is bending over backwards to facilitate migrants over Irish homeless people.
A temporary accommodation centre for 148 refugees in West Dublin is to be evacuated on the advice of the Dublin Fire Brigade.
“After significant engagement with Dublin Fire Brigade, that office has stated that they are not satisfied with the specific fire certification arrangements that exist currently in the building to allow a continued use for residential accommodation,” a spokesman for Minister for Integration Roderic O’Gorman said, reports Irish Times.
The need to house residents of Dolcain House will put further pressure on an already strained system as NGOs warn of the mass homelessness faced by those arriving and the government scrambles to find more housing.
Eoin Ó’ Broin, a Sinn Féin and TD spokesperson for the area, said he spoke to Mr O’Gorman this evening and said the issue was “very alarming and raises very serious concerns”.
“The department needs as a matter of urgency to clarify the fire safety status of all other buildings being used to provide shelter for IP applicants,” he said, reports Irish Times.
A source said the building was being offered free to house refugees. The owner of the building could not be reached on Friday evening.
